The soapstone
Ivar Tukula and other Inuit carvers use is collected in the area around
Nuuk and within the Godthåb fjord.
The most common color is
all shades of gray, but brown and green soapstone is also pretty common.
It varies in purity and
is often mixed with small
pieces of granite, which makes each carving distinctive.
