In 1728 Hans
Egede moved his mission to Nuuk
(the headland). For centuries this has been the
place where
inuit, who lived in this area, met for their summer gatherings, and was
as such an
ideal location.
In 1733 the Herrnhuters established their mission, and by 1760 Nuuk had
more
than 1000
inhabitants. Today Nuuk is the largest and most modern town in Greenland.

Today Greenlandair connects Nuuk with Kangerlussuaq, Greenland's main airport

during the
summer.
