Northern
Greenland as seen from 33,000 feet above from a Canadian Airlines DC-10
on it's way to Vancouver on July 15th, 1995.
You see it
in all forms, icebergs, glaciers and inland ice, which in all their might
and power tower
high and make
everything around them seem so small. Standing in a line, steep, unapproachable
and majestic.
Cruising
the ice fjord near Ilulissat/Jakobshavn
one evening in late July, 1996.
Innumerable
glacier tongues calving enormous icebergs in fantastic colors, shapes and
forms.
They are
almost motionless, resting here like giant ice mammoths. Elegant, yet terrifying
at the
same time.
If you stand close by, the size is overwhelming.

pictures from an evening cruise through the ice fjord. For more information
see Ilulissat

They rise as
tall as huge towers over the boats. The rays of the sun split, reflecting
every shade
known to man:
Blue, white, turquoise and, in all places, nearly crystal-clear.
