We commenced business
as Arktis Export in Sisimiut, Greenland, in the fall of 1982. Two years
later we moved to the capital Nuuk where we opened Arktis Gaveshop (Arctic
Gift Store).
This gallery /store
was the first of its kind in Greenland dealing solely in Inuit art, Arctic
furs and hides, narwhal- and walrus tusks, art cards, a line of fur mittens,
hats, etc. What started as a living room operation, soon became a full-grown
Arctic gallery, catering for tourists and local customers alike.
During those years
we went on extensive buying trips traveling all over Greenland as well
as parts of the Canadian Arctic. This gave us the opportunity to meet many
of the famous carvers in person, while making contacts with fellow art
dealers at the same time.
We have since moved
to British Columbia, Canada and are now located in Campbell River on the
East coast of Vancouver Island. Our long experience in the market with
a large chain of suppliers - most of them living and working in the Arctic
communities - is your guarantee to always find a unique piece of art or
a trophy of the highest quality.
Thank you for visiting!
